Welcome to Web-Head Weekly #147 - Back to the Grindstone!
Well, after a dreary, rain-filled Spring Break week, I'm back and ready to go. Last week hit most of you like a ton of bricks with more books than you could keep up with. Secret Invasion led the pack for Marvel while Countdown #4 kept building momentum for DC's Final Crisis. New comics are getting better and better and this summer is going to be a blast with all the new comic-related movies. Iron-Man looks like it will be GREAT and Batman, Hellboy, and Hulk all look pretty good too! Let's see what we have cooking up for the New Release rack this Wednesday:
DC 
The Countdown to Final Crisis is at #3 and everything is up for grabs. Darkseid is one step away from his chance at Godhood and only Jimmy Olsen (?) stands in his way! Jimmy Olsen? That sounds ridiculous but it's not. DC is also giving us a double-shot of Batman this week with Batman Confidential #16 and Batman: Death Mask #1. Titans #1 is the start of the new Judd Winick written series. Someone or something is continuing its attack on anyone who's ever been a Titan, including Nightwing, Starfire, Donna Troy, Beast Boy and Raven so don't miss out on this one. Throw in a Booster Gold, Green Lantern Corps, and Wonder Woman and you've got a pretty busy DC week!
MARVEL
Marvel is cranking out another issue of Amazing Spider-Man this week with issue #556. The Chris Bachalo art in the last issue was pretty cool so hopefully someone at Marvel can remember how to tell a Spider-Man story to go along with it. Wolverine has a close encounter with everyone's favorite blue mutant and it ain't Nightcrawler...it's his mommy - Mystique. She's such a nasty little minx! Throw in the next-to-last issue of Garth Ennis' run on the Punisher and you have yourself a lot of dead people. Check out the full list below:
EVERYBODY ELSE
Image pretty much took the week off but Dark Horse is trying to pick up the slack with Serenity: Better Days #2, BPRD 1946 #4, and my personal favorite, Goon #23. Terry Moore's Echo #2 is out this week and you really should be checking it out. Wizard GOLD #200 is the anniversary issue of your favorite smart-alecky magazine. The surpisingly non-sucky Jenna Jameson's Shadow Hunter #2 also releases and it is definitely the surprise hit of the week. No one expected this to be as good as it is! About 14 years ago, I borrowed 3 Wild Cards books from Chuck and never got them read. This week, George RR Martin's Wild Cards #1 hits the shelves with pretty, pretty, pictures. Now I can pretend that I really had time and read the books and Chuck will never know...unless he reads the weekly. SHHHH! Don't tell him!

Tournaments
To Celebrate my triumphant return from Spring Break, Dennis and Stephen held a "We are not Worthy" tournament to win back my favor. It started out looking like a regular Saturday tournament, but this week they took everyone's $5 entry fee and then promptly threw them out. They presented my cash gift on bended knee (as required) and in exchange, I let them live another week. I didn't pay them...but living is its own reward, isn't it? Daniel Brown would have won this week's Yu-Gi-Oh! tournament if Dennis and Stephen had let them play. |
